Student Evaluations
The students completed a brief, informal evaluation at the end of the class. All students reported that they were “extremely
satisfied” with learning about the nursing care of the CHF patient through the use of concept maps.
The following statements were made:
NEXT
- “It helped me to visualize how different problems with different systems in our body can affect each other”
- “Concept maps were concise yet, detailed all of the pertinent information”
- “For the first time I was able to create a mental picture of the whole patient, linking all the different comorbidities associated with a particular disease/illness. Concept mapping allowed me to think more critically and abstract.”
- “I really liked how in construction, it was like a mystery to be solved. In the end, after putting it all together, everything made sense and created a perfect clinical picture.”
- “With concept mapping you can almost predict/expect certain things to happen therefore anticipating patient needs and problem solving and/or medicating the patient before it becomes a critical situation.”
- “It was amazing to see how the systems are related to each other. And, to take care of one system sometimes we have to work on the other systems.”
- “…the more I created the concept map I was able to make sense of what I read and better comprehend it. In doing so, it allowed me to learn more about what I had already known. It also enabled me to see how conditions arise from one another and enabled me to use my critical thinking.”
- “It absolutely helps. Especially for older people who have multiple diagnoses.”
- “It helped me to see how many chronic conditions can affect many different parts of the body, causing other chronic conditions as well.”
