Reflection
The student grades on the cardiovascular exam dramatically improved from previous semesters. There were six A's on the exam where in previous semesters the highest grade was a B. Although further research is needed to say with confidence the increase in grades is attributed to the use of Gestalt principles in concept mapping, based on the positive student response and the improved test scores I will continue to use this teaching strategy in the class room and in clinical.
The only thing I would do differently is utilize a more complex case study. Even though the students benefited from going outside the case study to determine how each body system is affected by CHF, a more complex case study may provide an even better learning opportunity.
